Everybody’s got a list, right?

Daily writing prompt
What could you try for the first time?

Undoubtedly, most everyone has a mental list that they’ve probably carried with them since childhood, filled with possible adventures, achievements, hopes, and dreams. But, as most of us discover over time, that mental list morphs into three… would you, could you, or should you!

Take for instance, surfing… surfing, or any water sport, for that matter, could have been something worth trying, but not only has it now turned into a question of whether or not I should, but also aligns with the reality of would I even want to try it?

The answer, in this case would be that while I could have tried a number of open water sports, I wouldn’t have… are you crazy? There’s sharks swimming out in those waters, so I’ll stay on the boat, if you please! Not only that, but at this point in my journey, there’s no way that I should try it… not without breaking something!

I shall now try to write a new list of things that I could, would, and should try for the first time. It’s not nearly as easy as you might think. For example, there’s Karaoke, which is something I always thought I wanted to try. It is something that I can say I would try, and even go as far as to say that there’s no reason why I shouldn’t try it, but the trouble now is that I’m not sure I could! Perhaps what I should try for is the confidence needed to get up in front of people. Will I ever find the courage? Probably not, lol!

Before you start thinking that I’m just a coward, and am too scared to try new stuff, let me remind you of what I have tried…

Modeling, College degree, dog breeder, bird breeder, the entire field of equine husbandry, and horsemanship (dressage, vaulting, breeding, and showing), Mother, Bible Seminary, global travel (England and Ireland), camping, hiking, driving in a semi with my husband for 3 years, painting, pottery, ceramics, crocheting, sewing, becoming a blogger, publishing a book, and soon to be a Grandmother of 8 + my Godson, Peapod!

So, as you can see, I have always had a list, along with every other human being. Who knows how many more years I have left on this beautiful planet, but I don’t ever want my list to stop growing, not ever! I’m fairly certain that I’ve caught God writing on it, though He is rather sneaky about it… He absolutely loves to give me gifts and surprise me with things. I’m not gonna give that up, are you crazy? Don’t ever give up on your list, because that’s where God gives you purpose, my friends.

Don’t forget to try these new cookies for the first time…

Oh Honey… I Got a List!

What could you try for the first time?

While I’m not an adrenaline junkie sort of adventurer, I’ve had list after list of ideas to be tried for the first time! It began when I was a tiny girl, forever dreaming of things I wanted to do when I grew up.

Remember my Easy Bake Oven? I wanted to be a baker from the moment I melted my first pile of cookie dough under a hot lightbulb.

I was forever trying to rescue injured or stray animals, so I then wanted to be an animal doctor/national geographic reporter/animal whisperer! Seriously! I used to dream about finding a baby chimpanzee on the side of the road, somehow miraculously raising and returning it to the jungles… that was one of my favorite daydreams. I knew I wanted to be a mommy from the first battery operated cry that erupted out of the new baby doll I was given. I ventured out to every single boring yard sale and/or thrift store trip my mother visited, looking for each and every baby item possible. My babies had it all, from the blankets and clothes to the bottles, pacifiers, strollers, diaper bags, fake food, etc. I think you get the picture… I’m what one calls a Lister!

I was writing lists from the time I learned to spell, keeping them safely hidden beneath my mattress, away from spying eyes.

Over the years I’ve trained horses, bred and raised everything from birds to dogs, traveled to distant countries, bore three children, traveled with my husband in a Semi across the whole of America, lived in an RV for four years, ran a full scale lady’s hair salon in the big city, ran my own nail salon for five years, walked in 5 different full marathons, and been a model… who knew?!

Why, just last year I decided to write a book, and am now preparing to begin my third, so that’s certainly a joyful win win… as far as trying something new goes.

If you’re thinking I’m bragging about things, let me remind you that my life is far from a Hollywood success story… and in none of my endeavors did I say that I was fantastic at any of them. I only want you to see what I mean when I say I am known as what is called a Lister… love lists, love trying new things, love writing everything down. While some might say that I have a problem… I just think I’m a big kid at heart!

Currently, I’m sitting with a list of three things that I want to try. I want to do theatre, sing at Karaoke, and try stand-up comedy… just once! Way out of my comfort zone, but a girls gotta dream…

Have a cookie…

Should I… Could I?

What sort of things would I do if I could,

can be answered in only one way…

A Song!

What could you try for the first time?

Since I am so incredibly busy with all the stuff that I hadn’t done before, I am just full up on ideas of something new, as of yet.

I am learning how to have a healthy relationship with my adult daughter for the first time…

I am writing a full novel for the first time…

I am coping without a dog for the first time…

We are living in an RV for the first time…

I spend my day in a beautiful Lobby for the first time…

I am surviving without any prescriptive medications for the first time…

I walk long walks nearly every day for the first time…

I am learning to live as a Woman of Faith for the first time…

So see, I am full up in the try new things department. I spent 45 minutes trying to write out some ideas but it seemed more like a Dr. Seuss story…

I could eat Sushi I could

I would be sick I would…

I should be a singer I should

I could sing ditties I could…

I would break hearts I would

I should sell millions of copies I should…

I could race a car I could

Since I can’t see… I would wreck I would…

STOP ME!!!

I’ve gone round the bend on this silly question, so I leave you with this… If you can do something or try something, do it with all your might, for tomorrow has no guarantees nor time to look back on WOULDA COULDA SHOULDA!

Here is a treat I’ve never tried before…

I think it is some sort of custard, inside a delicately thin pastry.
