Wednesday Selfie’s…

Instead of offering you his usual pearls of wisdom, Eustace thought a selfie might accomplish the same thing this week. It did make me laugh, and they say that laughter is often the best medicine for what ails ya. In this case, its helping you sail through the day with a smile on your face!

Daily writing prompt
Write about your first crush.

There wasn’t any point in trying to re-answer this prompt, as my memory hasn’t changed, nor have any of the character’s in my story about that first crush. Instead, I went and pulled my original prompt answer up and set to work, touching up the edges… and adding cookies, of course!

Ok, so maybe this is more about the shoes than the boy, but still…

His Name was Louie and we went to school together, but I’m not certain how old we all were… maybe 5th or 6th grade?

He used to sit on the steps in front of our school during lunch break, every day. There was a group of boys who always congregated around him, fully inflating his ego, maybe. I would wander over to where they sat nearly every day, hoping he’d look my way. In my silly mind, I was sure that he liked me by the way he always smiled and laughed at what I thought was funny. In reality, it was probably him just being kind, as I think he must have been a nice kid.

One particular afternoon, I had worn my new Cherokee Wedge high heeled shoes just to look especially pretty. They were really just giant floor level erasers, I am certain of it!

Anyway, as soon as the class bell rang, I was up and off to freshen myself up in the girls lavatory. Feeling like a model, I began my promenade down the corridor toward the school’s courtyard. Out the doors and down the steps I sashayed, coming to stand near the group of boys that always crowded around Louie.

Now my friends had been teasing me earlier that week, regarding my view of how he must feel about me. They all said I was just making it up. I was intent on showing them all!

I started up my usual flirty convo, laying on the demure smiles and light giggles that were supposed to be what you did to get a man. What happened next must go into a play by play of sorts, or a back and forth screenshot for your brain…

*I teased him about something, and to this day, I have no idea what it was…

*He made the gesture as if to pursue me, maybe to tickle or pick me up in his arms to circle me around in the air for the world to see his true love for me, showing all those girls a thing or two… wait… ok, maybe that was my thoughts, but all he did was lean forward with a smile on his face… I know Right? God bless my imagination!

*I turned around, thinking him to be in pursuit, and proceeded to run across the entire front courtyard of our school, just like Julie Andrews did in the Sound of Music. The only differences were, for starters, I was wearing those ridiculous eraser shoes. And, the other key thing to remember is that he was NOT following me! I thought he was, but never looked back to confirm.

*When I got to the other end of the yard, I turned to realize what had actually been the scene…

No one following me… me running like a Robin Williams version of Julie Andrews… the majority of my classmates rolling on the grass laughing… and to my horror, ALL the boys on the steps hooting and hollering to join the choir!

We were all so young, and it might seem as a bad memory, but it one of the funniest things I remember doing, and you know what, I think that nice boy really did like me. I actually remember him laughing with the others but he didn’t look like he wanted to. Honestly, I think he felt bad for me…

Kids say and do some of the funniest things, and I am forever grateful for all of my youthful funnies, as I am sure that you are as well. I was and am a pretty funny person! Not because I am a great mixer of words and jokes, but because I can laugh at myself without being judgy, and I love to tell others about something I did that I thought was really silly or funny, and they get to laugh with me, not at me. There is a difference!

Hope this brought out some laughs. God Bless!

Don’t forget your cookie…

Just like yesterday…

Daily writing prompt
How do you want to retire?

I could, in fact, easily go back to bed for several more hours, truth be told! But, the prompt wants to know how I plan to redo what I did yesterday, so I’ll give it the ole college try…

Let’s see, I was up at 5 a.m. with a stomach ache, so I took my meds, made a cup of peppermint tea (not coffee… how shocking, I know), and spent several hours in scripture. It always seems to settle me, giving me peace within my own little storms.

Anyway, from spending time in the word to writing, both on the feed and my own personal projects, my day rapidly began to disappear… almost like fog rolling away from the shore, just as the morning sun’s golden rays force them to dissipate.

When my writing was finished, I baked several pies, one apple/peach and the other was cherry cobbler. With my stomach being on the fritz at the moment, I had to substitute the pie crust with a graham crust which worked rather well, in the end.

Trying to balance all this new medication with my eating schedule has been a bit rough, so my poor husband has been forced to fend for himself, of late, as my tummy doesn’t know whether it’s happy, sad, irritated, or down-right angry with me.

I finished my day finally, feeling nauseous and super tired, most clearly due to my 5 a.m. wake-up call, compliments of my spiteful roomie, IBS. I crawled into bed at only 7 p.m. and was asleep shortly after my head hit the pillow.

So, long story short… I haven’t any plans for how I want to retire, as I’m still recovering from yesterday!

Who’s asking?

Daily writing prompt
What are the most important things needed to live a good life?

I think we’re all grown up enough to admit that our answer could and would change, depending on the one asking this kind of question. Say for instance that you’re in the middle of a job interview when this question pops up… maybe not the moment to share the love of Jesus. Or maybe it is!

Why can’t I say what’s in my heart, whether I’m at church, in an interview, or at a gathering of complete strangers? My desire is to have the boldness of Christ, no matter what my circumstance! No fear, no shame, nor arrogance. I wish to bear only truth and love, which are THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS NEEDED TO LIVE A GOOD LIFE!

I’ve a quick little story to tell you that is both funny, and a great example of both the truth/love part, and the boldness of Christ that I mentioned…

I’ve been having a bit of issue with my health, of late, probably due to the environment we’d been surviving in for so long. Unfortunately, I’m not bouncing back as quickly as I’d hoped. Anyway, I went in for some tests and things the other day. My dutiful and doting husband was by my side, as per usual. The wait wasn’t very long before they called my name and we followed the nurse down the hallway toward the exam room. As they normally do at the beginning of a visit, the nurse asked me to stand on the weigh scale. When I stepped onto the scale it climbed all the way up to 203lbs… no joke! I stood there for a second, just staring at the number… how could that be right? Retaining my peaceful, child of God attitude, I acted as if I’d always weighed that much… but I was totally shocked, and rather dismayed! Had I really gotten that far without realizing it?

Just as I stepped backward off the scale, I hear my husband say to the nurse, “Please don’t write that number down… I had my foot on the scale while you weighed her.” No Joke!

Now, I suppose that I could have gotten angry, but as I’m fully aware of my partners shenanigan’s, I know that he loves me to the moon and back… and, I was so grateful that I wasn’t that heavy, allowed me to burst out laughing at his antics! There are no lies between us, we both have heartaches, hurts, and both share bad memories filled with the lies of others. This is the part to explain my answer about Truth and Love, but the next part brought about my thoughts on the boldness of Christ.

Once my doctor had completed the exam, asked all of her questions, and discussed what we needed to do going forward, she did something quite unexpected. She looked me straight in the face and asked, “Can I pray for you? You may say no, if you aren’t comfortable.”

Oh, My, Goodness! What are the odds of little ole me getting a physician that prays to the Ultimate Healer… Praise God! Hallelujah! Having someone actually take my hand in a doctor’s office, of all places, and pray for my needs?

Wow! I want that sort of boldness, day and night, winter spring summer or fall, and in good times or bad. I’m fairly certain that it was that woman’s faith in God and His love working through her, enabling her to speak out with such boldness. This is all just my impression about things, of course.

Now, maybe this story will help you understand my answer for the prompt, maybe not. But, I do still think it was worth the telling… just sayin!

Here, have a cookie..

I Shouldn’t…

Daily writing prompt
Describe your dream chocolate bar.

I know it’s shameful… I really shouldn’t… but… Ok! You twisted my arm, here. I feel a dream rising from the depths of my sweet, sweet, slumber…

… I knew it was a dream, only a dream…

But to indulge, just this once! Oh that I could melt into this dream, floating away down a smooth and silky chocolate river, toward oceans of sticky caramel…

Oh, wait a sec… back that up! The prompt is only asking about the bar, itself, so we’ll have to reschedule that dream for another time. Let’s try this again…

Ladies and Gentleman, today’s your lucky day! Every visitor is a winner! Now, I know you usually get a cookie for showing up to this game, but today is a special day and you have a once in a lifetime chance to pick a different prize!

**Disclaimer** You only get to pick one. No returns or exchanges once you touch it… duh! And, I shall not be held responsible for any Dentist or Orthodontist charges.

On with the show…

Now, if parties are your thing we’ve got just the right bar for you, my sweet friends…

We’ve got a glorious blend of white and dark chocolate, crafted by the finest artists from the distant isles of Partydom. It’s bar is designed for large gatherings. If the chairs get in people’s way, you can just eat them!

Door number two is for those who like it on the quieter, and more intimate side. This next bar should satisfy your chocolaty cravings…

Minus this strange man, of course!

There, that’s much better! Since the booth is made of the finest of caramels, it won’t melt when you sit on it.

Ahhh, door number three…

This is the perfect bar for the lounger, the slipper wearer, the midnight movie muncher! Its booth is of the finest marshmallows that only get fluffier when you sit on them.

Now, you’ve seen the three different Chocolate Bars to select as your prize, today. What shall you choose?

Will it be door number one, two, or three? Or, perhaps you’d simply like to stick with our usual cookies. I don’t know about everyone else but my teeth hurt from all that sweet chocolate bar stuff.

Sometimes it’s best to keep your dreams simple! Too much of a good thing tends to spoil the dream…

Wednesday Words…

Eustace is wandering around in the woods this morning, in search of a forest that’s hidden within its own trees!

I made a reference about not being able to see the forest for the trees not too long ago, and Eustace took it upon himself to go and investigate. Ugh! I have to be more careful with some of the things I say in front of that silly camel. He takes everything so literally, ya know?!

Feelings, nothing more than feelings…

Daily writing prompt
How do you feel about cold weather?

How one might feel about cold weather has a lot to do with where their sitting, I suppose.

Sitting inside would feel much warmer than sitting outside, for instance…

Then again, it has a great deal to do with what one’s wearing while in the cold weather, right?!

For instance…

Scales can actually be more effective than fur, when it comes to really cold weather.

Brrrrrrr!

Now, when it comes to how one feels on the inside… well, it all depends on what you eat…

Want one?

Drive it like you stole it…

Daily writing prompt
Have you ever broken a bone?

From as early as I can remember, I’ve always worked very hard at whatever job I’m given… and I play just as hard, if not harder!

When you play hard, chances are that you’re going to take some hard hits… but hey, you only live once, right?!

I’ve face planted into the dash of a motor vehicle, breaking my nose. I’ve slammed full tilt into a water barrel while riding a horse, chipping the bone just below the knee of my left leg. My pant leg caught on the tire of a three wheeler, sucking me underneath and then running me over… no broken bones there, just injured pride. Blew out one knee while chopping down a great big Holly tree, and blew out the other while playing in the snow.

And, as Barney sings, “the list goes on and on, my friend”. Since I’m fairly certain that you don’t give a flying tire about how many injuries I’ve had, broken bone or not, let’s focus on something better…

Cookies, of course!

Scales…

Daily writing prompt
How do you balance work and home life?

The answer is in the question, silly WordPress! Balance is the answer, in and of itself. What’s in the baskets will depend on the one doing the balancing. The key to the balancing is to choose the correct set of scales!

Look for quality, longevity, and any and all perks available with your purchase. Watch out for companies that cut corners with cheap product and shoddy manufacturing. They will look pretty, but will break after the first couple of uses.

Remember, if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is!

Go with a reputable company, preferably one that’s been around for a good long while. And do your research! Ask around for testimonials from those who previously purchased quality scales. This way, you are sure to find the set of scales that were meant just for you.

I found mine, and I promise that you will too. And I’ll stand on their quality til my last breath! I’ve had mine for as long as I can remember. At times, I’ve abused them, misplaced them, or downright put them away so I could try to do things my way. But I’ve still got them… and they look as good as they did when I first received them. If you’d like to, you can use my testimony and referral to where I got mine if you’re in the market to buy a quality set of scales. I’d be happy to tell you where I got them from… you know, who the manufacturer is, and all.

Until such time, we shall bake cookies…

I’ve got a secret, yes I do…

It seems like just yesterday she was playing dress-up…

and now she’s having a baby!

And guess what?

I know the gender of my grandbaby, but it’s a secret… for now. My daughter asked that I take a peek at her test results and not tell her the gender, yet. This way, I can bake the gender reveal cake for her and my son-in-law. They want to experience the surprise together, as a couple. Isn’t that incredibly romantic?

So, guess what today is?

Baking day!

I need to get the cakes baked and cooled, but I won’t be doing the frosting and decorating til tomorrow. I want the frosting to be as fresh as possible, so I’ll hold off doing it til just before we deliver it.

For now, I can show you the cake baking part as long as it’s only the cakes. I’ll be sure to show you the whole thing after the reveal, I promise!

I’m making a 4 layer white cake with the surprise candy hidden on the inside. The recipe I found is crazy! It calls to bake them for 50 minutes at 325. Even though my oven runs a bit warm, they baked for 43 minutes before I pulled them… absolutely perfect!

I’ve cooled, wrapped, and refrigerated them til tomorrow morning. When I get up in the morning, I’ll make a huge batch of Vanilla Buttercream frosting. My youngest daughter bought a very lovely cake topper, as well as the candy that goes on the inside.

For now, the scary part is finished… that is, perfect cakes for the decorating. I’m a flavor girl, so I don’t care how pretty the cake looks on the outside. If it doesn’t taste delicious then what’s the point, right?!

Oh, and I even cleaned up my mess! Well, to be honest, it wasn’t that difficult. Ever since I began my baking adventures with that tiny Easy-Bake-Oven, my workspace needed to be clean. I suppose that every baker worth their salt, or more appropriately, their sugar, keeps things clean as they go along. It helps keep a clean and organized work space! Willy Wonka’s factory was always clean and organized… it had to be!

That way he could focus on the magic in the candy. Well, at least that’s what I think…
