A bit too much…

Daily writing prompt
Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

This girl likes to have fun, if you hadn’t picked up on that yet, but “playtime” has had to be toned down these days.

From the time I was small, playtime revolved around hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, fishing, and/or any fun activity out in the wilderness.

Over the years I’ve walked marathons (running them is silly), played softball, and at one point even played a game of tackle football in a muddy field, no joke. I was fast, light, and could take a hit!

Sitting where I sit now, with a rainy day ache in every single place that I injured myself over the years, playtime has had to become a bit less aggressive.

I traded my outdoor adventuring for online gaming outdoor adventuring (don’t judge), as I’ve no desire to collapse from trying to do things the way I used to. Not only that, but the embarrassment of being hand carried off the path by some young, strong, and handsome paramedics… no thanks!

I may not be a young spring chicken any longer, but this wise old owl has traded her adventure shoes for Meemaw slippers. Don’t think that this is just anybody’s game, no ho ho way! You wouldn’t think that rocking a baby to sleep would be so tough… until you have rocked them for an hour, while holding yourself in the most awkward and uncomfortable position. You’ll ache for days, trust me!

I guess you could say that my playtime has become selective now… I save up all my physical energy for baby, while I imagine, write, and virtually play online games. I also bake you virtual cookies each day, which I consider playtime, as well.

Speaking of cookies…

What’s the story behind your nickname?

As we all know, I don’t do well with short answers… in honesty, they are no fun!

My memory pulls me back to my childhood, to a time when my Nana was alive. Nana was the only one to ever call me Antonia, most likely in protest over my parents laziness when I was born a girl. They expected a boy when they chose Toni Rae, but got me instead, and just stuck with the same name. But alas, this memory is too far back, nor was that name technically a nickname, so I will move ahead in time…

My children were sleeping, as well as my ex husband, so what does an overworked and underpaid mom do for fun, I took it upon myself to have a couple glasses of wine. The house was quiet, and I had the office to myself, so off I went to the World Wide Web. Alcohol does funny things to a person…

There I was, at two in the morning, heavily under the influence… don’t judge… Alcohol gives confidence and courage, but not always wise choices, so consider us all lucky that this is the only thing I got up to in the middle of the night!

So anyway, as I was perusing the internet, I came up with this hairbrained idea, to find a really cool game handle. I loved video games, especially the mmorpg ones, and everyone had awesome names for their in-game characters, or toons. I was in search of The One, if you will, game name wise…

Stumbling upon those name generating search engines, I began to look for a Native American word or name, that I could assign myself since nobody else ever wanted to do. Yes I think I am maybe Native American, and no, I did not make any valid name choice for this girl from the wilderness. Remember, wine was involved, so I make no valid claim to the name I settled on. I finally found a site that was pretty cool, in that it gave really decent explanations for the meaning and spelling/pronunciation. I came to this…

WIWOHKA – roaring, raging water…

In honesty, I cannot remember the rest of the definition, and highly doubt that it would do me any good now. For whatever the reason, the name stuck, and I have used it now for over 20 years…

Funny thing, my husband and I looked the name up once, and aside from the definition not being there anymore, we did discover a long lost Indian Tribe located somewhere near the great lakes, and they were called the Wiwohka Tribe… I can aspire!

Don’t pop my bubble by saying I am full of it… I know that I am, but where is the fun in having a really cool nickname, if there was not an amazing story behind it… I am proud of my name, even it only means that I talk a lot, and am such a cry baby that everybody gets wet when I am around! At least, maybe, you will remember me from either laughing or crying…

Scales…

Daily writing prompt
How do you balance work and home life?

The answer is in the question, silly WordPress! Balance is the answer, in and of itself. What’s in the baskets will depend on the one doing the balancing. The key to the balancing is to choose the correct set of scales!

Look for quality, longevity, and any and all perks available with your purchase. Watch out for companies that cut corners with cheap product and shoddy manufacturing. They will look pretty, but will break after the first couple of uses.

Remember, if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is!

Go with a reputable company, preferably one that’s been around for a good long while. And do your research! Ask around for testimonials from those who previously purchased quality scales. This way, you are sure to find the set of scales that were meant just for you.

I found mine, and I promise that you will too. And I’ll stand on their quality til my last breath! I’ve had mine for as long as I can remember. At times, I’ve abused them, misplaced them, or downright put them away so I could try to do things my way. But I’ve still got them… and they look as good as they did when I first received them. If you’d like to, you can use my testimony and referral to where I got mine if you’re in the market to buy a quality set of scales. I’d be happy to tell you where I got them from… you know, who the manufacturer is, and all.

Until such time, we shall bake cookies…

Somebody’s gotta do the heavy lifting…

Well, ok… only in a post-apocalyptic, zombie infested world, but still! Where would all those surviving warriors out there get food, drink, and meds, if not for MeeMaw’s Goodwill?

I have to maintain all my outer defenses, while also cooking, gardening, gathering resources, running the forges and crafting all the bandages and medications. My place usually services wayward survivors at all hours of the day or night… zombie’s don’t wear watches, if you were wondering about the hours.

Anyhow, my trigger finger’s itching, and I hear somebody knockin at the back gate… and they don’t sound too friendly!

Why, yes I do…

Do you need a break? From what?

I most assuredly could use a break, and thank you for asking. I don’t mind if I do…

And, what might I need a break from? Overly repetitive prompts for starters, but not just that… could we start asking more positive questions, for crying out loud!

Anyway, since the questions been asked, you might as well know what I’ll be doing with my free time. Gaming, of course!

My trigger finger’s itchy…

However, I haven’t forgotten your cookies.

I’m not a complete monster…

… just the cookie kind!

Describe your most ideal day from beginning to end.

Thank you for choosing Journey With Me Adventure Travel! If you would please take a seat, wherever one’s available on our tour bus… Oh, and don’t forget to put your seatbelt on, just in case things get bumpy. Ok, is everyone comfortable? Alrighty then, we should really get started. This most ideal day is quite full of things to describe from beginning to end, so we’re gonna have to do this Wiwohka Wonka style! If you tend to experience motion sickness, there’s a med-kit under each seat, carrying a barf bag and some Dramamine. My rigs always come prepared for the unexpected! Ok, let’s do this!

Thank you for riding along on this adventure extravaganza! It was far less bumpy than I’d expected, so if anyone is interested in eating breakfast before you go, I’ve left some goodies…

Ever The Dreamer…

Daily writing prompt
What was the last thing you did for play or fun?

It just so happens that I spent all day yesterday playing an online game… but that’s not actually the last fun thing I did for fun or play. The funny thing is though, whenever I play a game for numerous consecutive hours in a single day, I’m guaranteed some crazy dreamtime.

So…. the last thing I did for play or fun ended up being the dream I had last night.

All night long I dreamt of either hunting in the forest, or working on the plans for my inn/cottage. Hopefully, we’re about to begin the build today, in-game.

I want it to have the kitchen out behind the inn, so there won’t be any grease fires to cause a catastrophe. It’s right on the edge of the wood, resting beside a river that’s not too far from our clan.

I want the lobby, dining room and hearth on the main floor, obviously, but there will be spacious rooms to rent on the upper floors. There will be a covered outdoor deck that extends about ten feet over the river. This way, we can build some of the guest rooms out over the water.

Hey… the prompt asked! I am just acquiescing to their request, which required giving you some information, making it worth your while to read my response.

Before you start thinking that I’m just goofing off and ignoring my holiday duties, fear not! I’ve already finished preparing your gifts, err… coal… ya, coal for your stockings.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot… I dreamt of cookies, too…

Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

Todays honored guest and recipient of my praises would be none other than my hubby, my partner in crime, and my favoritist person!

We’ve been married for nearly 19 years and he still impresses me, and on a regular basis at that!

Castles and Glades…

I’ve started playing a new game with my husband recently, and it’s very relaxing… sort of like building a settlement from the ground up.  The visuals are beautiful,  the music is cathartic, and most of the time, you only need to kill what you’re going to eat or use for resources.

No offense to you all, but I want to be adventuring with him more than I want to write at the moment..

Today calls for working on our castle walls and a good bit of wandering, I think!
