The Art of Invisibility…

Daily writing prompt
What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

For whatever reason, when I saw the prompt question this morning, the book Where’s Waldo? popped into my head. You’d think that one could spot him a mile away, what with the bright red and white stripes on his shirt. Throughout all the books pages, the environment and all the people are different, but Waldo hides in the middle of them, unchanged… still wearing his silly hat and brightly colored shirt. No matter how hard we try, Waldo just vanishes into the crowd. Once we locate him, it seems as if he sticks out like a sore thumb, as they say.

Why is that?

In the real world, some folks will try to be new and different, in order to boldly change the world! Other folks make active daily efforts to disappear into the woodwork, going unnoticed and/or unbothered by the world around them. The question we often ask ourselves is, do we want to be Waldo or the crowd that hides that silly red and white shirt.

As a human being, I strive to do good and make a difference in the world around me, but as a Christian I’m also compelled to become more like Christ and less than myself. What if Waldo was like Jesus, and the crowd surrounding him were like the world, or US?

Anyway, I know that might seem a strange way to explain how I feel about leaving a legacy behind. If I wish to leave anything behind, it would be a reflection of Christ within me, looking back at you from my eyes. I desire to have the fragrance of His love assault your senses, as I pass you by. I hope that the sounds of God’s truths would be ever escaping my lips, and His eternal hope might flow from my fingertips, as I write.

I don’t wish to leave my legacy at all, but instead let my life leave only evidence, of the one who chose me first… the one who calls me His own!

If You Really Want to Know…

Daily writing prompt
How do you feel about cold weather?

What are the feelings produced by cold weather?

First come the shivers, then comes a cold nose, and cold fingers and toes are soon to follow suit.

Externally, my body has some pretty basic responses to cold weather. Internally, I suppose different folks experience a range of feelings, as no human is alike. Personally, I enjoy putting cocoa and marshmallows into coffee that already has French Vanilla creamer swirling around in the cup.

Seasons come and go with some regularity, fluctuating in both duration and climate. Some winters are quite cold, while some summers feel like the Sahara Desert. Some years we feel like Spring and Fall are nearly non-existent. While I do enjoy the summer heat, my river walking tends to go better in the colder climates.

That’s all I got for how I feel in cold weather.

Make A Wish…

Daily writing prompt
Have you ever broken a bone?

Who hasn’t? At one time or another, dinner tables across the country, possibly even the world, have had eager hands reaching to snap that ole Wish Bone!

This prompt doesn’t really give me a lot to work with today, as no one really wants to know about each others injuries, unless you’re a doctor. In honesty, knowing about someone’s past injuries doesn’t really draw my interest, no offense. The odds are also very high, my bone history won’t be filling your day with oodles of insight, either.

Even if I take the prompt seriously, putting forth my best effort in answering with sincerity, all I got for you is YES. The prompt didn’t ask for any of the pertinent information needed for a complete answer. We weren’t given a when, where, how, or why to the daily query… just “Have you?”

Since I’ve answered the question, thereby fulfilling my commitment in offering a response to each daily prompt, I’m out!

Shortening My Commute…

Daily writing prompt
How do you balance work and home life?

In order to balance my work and home life, I simply moved into my office! Now I don’t have to commute, which leaves me free to just roll out of bed, requiring only a few steps to reach my desk.

When you want a thing bad enough, you’re willing to make sacrifices and allowances that will offer opportunity to accomplish a thing.

For my life and career, I desire to do a thing that needs doing, even if I have to do it in an RV with no working toilet. I don’t need to sit in daily traffic or pay the upkeep and expenses of said commute, nor do I need to waste valuable money on clothing, make-up and meals.

Everything in life is a juggling act, of one sort or another, especially balancing work and home. All we can do is face one day at a time, doing the best we can with what we have… even if it’s an old beat up RV. Will it always be this way? No… but for now, it’s working so I’ll keep at it!

What sacrifices have you made in life?

It’s Friday, it’s beautiful out, and this question is depressing! The park and nearby river sound much more appealing, if I’m being completely honest.

Therefore, I’m opting out of today’s prompt question! God Bless!

Setting aside the fact that the word prompt question is grammatically off the reservation, I do have a quick answer that fits the bill.

List your top 5 favorite fruits.

My favorite dessert is a summer parfait with fruit, vanilla pudding and an angel food cake, cut into small cubes. I generally make it during the summertime, usually on or near a very widely celebrated holiday!

If I’m to enjoy a drink, it will be a very tropical one, with music playing in the background of an island theme!

What follows are pictures of fruit, used in one form or another, in one or both of the above mentioned items.

Which five fruits do you think are my favorites, based on the pictures shown, and the description given?

Daily writing prompt
What’s one small improvement you can make in your life?

As per the specific word usage of the daily prompt, there’s nothing small left for me to actively do, aside from only answering prompt questions that have a point!

The list of small improvements needed in my life is quite substantial, but as I’m tapped out in the DIY department, there isn’t anything worth mentioning that would satisfy the prompt. Let me be clear in saying that I’m not being negative or tetchy in my response… I’m simply keeping it real!

Count yourselves lucky, as I nearly put a picture of a working toilet on this response… you’re welcome!

Daily writing prompt
Share a story about someone who had a positive impact on your life.

We met each other while attending college, nearly 12 years ago, and we’ve been friends ever since! I remember standing outside a classroom, as we waited for the teacher to arrive and unlock the door, and she was standing next to me against the wall. The first thing I did was stop her and give a disclaimer about myself… I wanted her to be warned of my frigid nature!

Well, she seemed to take it as a challenge, rather than a deterrent! It wasn’t long before we were choosing classes together and carpooling to campus, as we lived not too far away from one another at that time.

We shared classes, snacks, coffee and a good bit of shenanigans! We just knew we fit together like peas and carrots, as Forrest Gump would say! I even rescued her from being used as a stripper pole by a strange woman under the influence of some drug or another… I’m being fully serious! We’d shared an evening class at that time, so it was late and dark when we stopped off at the restroom near our classroom, before heading home for the night. I’d heard the door open and someone enter while I was using the facility, but it wasn’t until I went to wash my hands that I saw who it was. There before me, bravely trying to wash her hands was my Chica, with some strange woman trying to dance to the rhythm of a distant drum, up against her side. Forgive me for not washing my hands, but I just grabbed my Chica by her arm and we bolted out of the bathroom, laughing uncontrollably, as we ran for the car.

We have gone through a great deal of adventures, one of which involved a stay at some nearby hot springs, where we made some hilarious memories. I cannot imagine doing any adventures that she isn’t involved in somehow… and I cannot imagine going through anything difficult without her support either!

My Chica held me together, through some of the most difficult and painful parts of my journey. Many times, it was she that gave me hard truths I needed to hear, in order that I get up and keep going. Never would she let me wallow for long, in the midst of my miserable circumstances.

She has cheered me on, been there for me when I felt abandoned and alone, and faithfully stood beside me through hell or high water! Talk is cheap, but unconditional love is priceless and the woman has lavished it upon me for all our years together! When I saw the prompt question, she was the first person that came to mind, outside of God and my husband.

My Chica has to be one of the most genuine human beings I’ve ever encountered, and I thank God for her every day!

Well, I’m off to enjoy a glorious sunny day with my Chica, as we cruise around in her Classic Ford Thunderbird, for a Mother’s day treat to ourselves… hehe!
