Is luxury a necessity?

Daily writing prompt
What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

As there is such a vast difference between comfort and actual physical survival, how can one even answer this prompt correctly?

If it’s a luxury…. you can live without it, silly!

Now, if I cannot live physically live without something, that limits our list to water, caloric foods, sufficient shelter and protective clothing from the environment… oh, and love! Who can live without love? I know that I can’t!

Since I have all that I need, everything else can come or go… most of it already has, and I’m still alive.

The only thing that I consider a luxury would be my freedom! The freedom to speak my mind, to speak my faith, and to share the love of Christ. So, I guess that I discovered my answer, right in the middle of my excuse for not coming up with one… go figure!

What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

Don’t believe me? Can you imagine living in our society today, working together, eating together, and subsisting together, without a Toilet? When my husband and I moved into our RV, we did alot of research to make an easier transition into the new lifestyle. Believe it or not, almost all of the websites made mention of how conversations with other RVers always ended up talking about the Throne! In the beginning of our adventure, we thought this was funny, and surely a piece of misinformation.

Wrong! Living in a moving house means that you are never sedentary. Your object is a fully self contained living, eating, sleeping, driving, working, playing, and yes going to the bathroom in house! The RV has no hard connection to any services, including water, electricity, and septic. This means we have to plug in for water and power and we are responsible for the maintainance and emptying of said septic system on a regular basis. There is no margin for error if any number of things go wrong, and they have!

With that in mind, I will not expand any more on my example, but I am sure you get the picture. I will leave it to you, then, to consider your present circumstances, and consider how easy or difficult it would be to remove your only source of bathroom assistance. If you are getting an uncomfortable feeling when you consider life without a toilet, then you will appreciate why I chose this as my luxury.
