Sorting…

Daily writing prompt
What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

I really had no good answer for the prompt this morning, so I peeked into my prompt archives, in hopes of remembering what I’d said last year. I’m rather glad that I looked, though I never did locate last years response. Oddly, I rolled across a response that wasn’t attached to any specific prompt, but it felt somewhat relevant to this mornings query.

From November of last year,

… When it comes to being a writer, I’ve mentioned before how I like to answer the prompts because they help me to think outside of my writing box, if you will. I can write about things I normally wouldn’t, and often dabble in poetry or other forms of writing that aren’t my usual style. I try to stretch myself as a writer, so that I can develop a deeper skill and literary depth, for writing that which is in my heart.

Thinking outside the box has been an adage used for far greater a time, than even I can remember. It’s a fantastic analogy for more than just writing, as it comes into play in every corner of our internal processing. In every part of us there are boxes of beliefs, boxes of opinions, boxes of hurts, boxes of memories, and boxes of behaviors… all of which eventually get full, or sometimes hold nothing at all. What do we do with them all, when there is no more room to even cross the floor, without walking on or stepping in differing boxes to get there?

On the flip side, what if the room were vacant with no boxes at all? Humans need boxes to navigate the crossing of the room to the doorway in the corner.

Boxes are just boxes, quite benign. They’re neither good or bad… just useful, in sorting through life’s experiences. However, what we do with the box, is a whole different ball of wax!

Do we seal them up with packing tape, pushing them to the sides of the room to be forgotten? What if there’s something useful we may need later? Just in case, we might take a sharpie and put a label on the box like, *Remember me when you are ready to throw in the towel*. We seem to live in some of our boxes, refusing to come out and cross the floor, finding comfort and safety in the familiar surroundings of things unchanged by outside forces. The flap on these boxes are worn, tattered and torn… no longer able to be completely closed. Neither of these two extremes is very healthy.

That is where thinking outside the box comes into play… maybe even evolving into something like Navigating the Ins and Outs of Boxes. For this we need tools… mental, emotional and spiritual tools. I wandered for most of my literary life, existing for the most part, sealed inside boxes of my past… one that couldn’t be altered or undone, no matter how long I hid myself within those boxes.

I sort of think that our painful journey over the last 4 years, actually tore the lids off all my boxes… forcing me to come out into the light. Had things not gone badly, as they did, I would still be sitting in my recliner, there in Virginia, over 100 lbs. heavier, completely doped up on medications, and so hopelessly depressed that suicide was actually looking good, and I am not being flippant!

Fast forward to now, living the way we do and writing the way I currently have been, I can say with certainty that my writings would not be possible, nor could they even have been born into my imagination… were I still back there in that old recliner (box).

I like living freely… skipping from one box to another, moving items from one hidden corner, and bringing them out into the light to organize and sort through for the useful stuff, even though sometimes I don’t feel like expending the effort.

For me personally, living this way has brought that which I had sought for all my days… Joy in the Journey… I found it!

Nothing worth having is easy, and putting forth the effort (routine) is what makes all the difference in the world!

A Lesson…

Daily writing prompt
Name the most expensive personal item you’ve ever purchased (not your home or car).

I don’t really need to add anything further, do you?

Well, except for cookies…

During Class or During Lunchtime?

Daily writing prompt
What was your favorite subject in school?

Listen, everybody, don’t blame me for answering todays prompt, as I plan to. They need to learn to be more specific… writer… Duh!

With such a wide open question. I could run with it in several directions. The only parameters are that it has to be found IN a school, whether it be in the classroom, lunchroom, or on the soccer field. One has to then figure out if the question is referring to pre-school, elementary, middle school, high school, college or trade school, and don’t forget Sunday School.

Going further, let’s consider what falls under the term, Subject:

Google says “a person or thing that is being discussed, described, or dealt with.” While we can add the word School at the end, it still only narrows the field, somewhat.

If I’m to interpret the prompt’s query correctly,

What was my favorite person or thing being discussed, described, or dealt with… in any form of academia?

This girl is an avid reader, and have a deep love of learning. I was always an exceptional student in most academic subjects, aside from math and science, which I abhorred. School was always the place I wanted to be, far more than whatever foster home I was placed in at the time.

As an adult I enjoyed Modeling School, Bible Seminary, and several other Trade’s programs. I eventually went to community college and attained an AA Degree.

Under the new guidelines for answering the prompt, throughout any of the high school days, I would have to admit that Boys were my favorite subject…. shush, don’t judge!

Everything else is history…

No, really, my favorite subject actually turned out to be History.

I have People For That…

No I don’t! Ha ha, had you there for a moment, didn’t I?

Really, I wish I did have people to help me with all my stuff… there’s too much, and nowhere for it to go.

Bottom line is… money! Doesn’t it always?!

There just isn’t any easy way for an unseen no one, such as myself, to sweet talk a stranger into seeing what I see… let alone back me, in my literary endeavors.

Oddly, God just keeps whispering, Just keep writing it. Nothing is impossible for ME!”

So, while I may not have the best skills at managing my own time, I fully trust and believe that my heavenly father is giving me a hope and a future… I’ll bet my soul on it! I can take the risk, as I’ve a Jesus card to trump all the others!

Just sayin…

Here, have a cookie…

They’re never too hard to swallow, and that takes a lot of work, my friends.

I’m Sorry, That’s Not On My Bucket List…

Daily writing prompt
Do you need time?

As soon as today’s prompt appeared on the screen, a song popped into my head, oddly, from something I’d seen the other day… but, for the life of me, I can’t remember where. What’s funny is that it seems a rather fitting answer to the question being asked. Well, sort of, anyway.

While it’s not fully what my personal response might be, I think the song was so popular (and probably still is) because it’s how many people feel, at some point in their lives.

Looking back from where I stand now, its glaringly obvious that I didn’t understand the reality of time, the way I do now. Probably, because I was busy being wild and free! Ahhh, the joyful ignorance of youth…

But, time itself, has a way of sneaking up on one… and then running them over, as it speeds past.

What I’ve come to discover is that no amount of needed, wanted, added, or borrowed time is fully used to its full potential…

I think we’re much better off using the time we have, instead of always dreaming and wishing for more…

at some point, that’s no longer going to be an option!

Here, take some cookies…

I picked all the sand off, I promise!

On The Other Hand…

Daily writing prompt
What will your life be like in three years?

While this prompt is actually a pretty decent one, and there are at least three or four hopes and dreams that bear mentioning, I’m unable to answer just now, for several reasons… one of which is my current low caffeine level.

The second reason isn’t what you might expect. I’ve somehow managed to injure my left hand, so its been hunt and peck typing since Saturday. This question about life in three years requires a far lengthier answer than my tired little phalanges can tackle!

And, the final reason for not offering any ideas is… right now, I just don’t know about anything, with any degree of confidence!

So, in trade for my usual witty comebacks, I thought this video was rather apropos, in a twisty, windy, and roundabout sort of way:

Luckily, my magic Easy Bake oven only requires that I push a simple button…

Come On, Overthinkers, Its Our Time To Shine!

Daily writing prompt
Invent a holiday! Explain how and why everyone should celebrate.

This should be so easy for us to organize and promote, OA’s (Overthinkers Anonymous members… you know who you are)!

Seeings as how we’re frequently up at all hours of the night, I feel confident that we could really make a go of this, don’t you? Come on guys, how about just this once, we agree about a thing, without taking all night to do it, please?

I know I don’t ask for things often, but this could be our moment to stand… to stand up and celebrate all those over-tired, over-worked, underpaid, unrecognized and/or simply stressed out members of society!

Hoping to save time in the decision making process, I’ve come up with a pretty fair quality title, along with a helpful slogan;

Owl Day!

We don’t care WHOOO you are

We’re just glad you DOOOO your part!

I’ve taken the liberty of selecting a few posters to choose from, and might I suggest we select a day in early January?

This would give us plenty of time to argue about the photos, and also gets us safely past all the New Years Resolutions we’ve no intention of keeping.

Well, what say you?

Are you in?

Fine, will you say yes for some cookies?

I’ll wait….
